Techniques to ensure you can look your best have come a long way. The demand for safe, non-invasive skin rejuvenation procedures continues to skyrocket, and better techniques using advanced technology continue to be the treatment of choice.

Drs. Ron Young and Lilly Wouters of Calgary Vein and Laser offer a holistic approach in skin rejuvenation techniques. “We see an increasing demand from our patients for safe, non-invasive, non-surgical techniques to correct sun damage, rosacea, sun spots, and aging skin,” states Dr. Young.

“People don’t want any downtime, they don’t want surgery and they’re choosing procedures that are relatively pain free,” says Dr. Wouters.

The Titan is a new technology that Drs. Young and Wouters are using to tighten skin, and the results speak for themselves. “This is an excellent alternative for patients who are not ready to consider a facelift,” explains Dr. Wouters, adding the Titan can be used on patients of all ages with all skin types. “The Titan causes tightening of the skin with applications for the face, and even more exciting, for the body,” she says.

Using an infrared light frequency, the Titan heats the collagen 1 – 3 mm below the skin’s surface, causing it to contract as well as stimulating new growth, resulting in tightening. The procedure, which involves ongoing skin cooling, has been very effective in lax areas of the face such as under the chin, jowls and forehead. Under certain circumstances, it can also be used to improve the appearance of fine lines of the face. The Titan can also be effective in lifting a tummy bulge after pregnancy. Ongoing cooling makes this procedure comfortable and using pain medication unnecessary. Typically, two to three sessions are performed at monthly intervals, and maximum results will be achieved within a three to six month period. If fat cells are a problem, Mesotherapy will complement the tightening effect of the Titan by shrinking fat cells and removing the need for surgery.

Drs. Young and Wouters offer Photodynamic Therapy. Whether treating suspected skin cancer, sun spots, or acne, the process is very similar. The treatment utilizes a drug, called Levulan ALA, and a Blu light source. The solution is applied directly to the face and the light or laser source is then used to activate the Levulan ALA and the targeted cells are destroyed.

Medical IPL, (or Intense Pulsed Light therapy), is another highly effective treatment for sun damaged skin. Photofacial treatments remove surface pigmentation, rosacea, and sun damaged blood vessels, while stimulating collagen formation to smooth out the skin, improve the skin’s texture, reduce pore size and decrease the depth of fine facial wrinkles.

“These treatments offer great advantages over traditional treatments through the use of advanced science and technology,” explains Dr. Wouters.

Other skin rejuvenation techniques offered at Calgary Vein and Laser include tissue fillers and line minimizers such as Botox and Restylane

“We continue to offer the gold standard in the treatment of varicose and spider veins, says Dr. Young, and with the foam technique have limited the need for most surgeries.”

Drs. Young and Wouters strongly believe in offering skin care education and encourage preventative measures. “We very much believe in a holistic approach, and part of our goals are to educate people about skin care and the prevention of damage,” explains Dr. Wouters, adding sun protection, adequate rest and good nutrition contribute greatly to the appearance and health of a person’s skin.
