Dr. Martin has developed the Medique Skincare line using the most
advanced formulations available to achieve more youthful, healthy
appearing skin.
Medique features a quality line of skincare
products. These products are non-comedogenic and can be used by
sensitive skin types.
Medique’s X-Fol Skin Rejuvenation treatments can help repair sun
damage, smooth out rough discoloured skin, improve fine lines and
wrinkles, help control acne problems and brighten drab skin. By
combining four Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) plus two Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA),
X-Fol Skin Rejuvenation can provide even exfoliation with less stinging
and irritation than previously available.
Medique’s X-Fol is available
in several concentrations. Your physician or treatment provider will
consult with you and assess your skin to determine the appropriate
application. It is imperative that all service providers offering this
treatment are properly trained by a Medique trainer. The
higher-concentration treatments may only be applied by or supervised by
a physician.
What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical Peels are defined as the application of one or more exfoliating
agents to the skin to produce controlled destruction of portions of the
epidermis and/or dermis with subsequent regeneration of new epidermal
and dermal tissues.
How deep will the X-Fol Peel exfoliate my
skin?
There are four main depths of chemical peels.
Very Superficial (Exfoliation): These peels thin or remove the stratum
corneum.
Superficial (Epidermal): These peels create necrosis of part or all of
the epidermis. Medique’s X-Fol Peel is in this category.
Medium (Papillary Dermis): These peels create necrosis of the epidermis
and part or all of the papillary dermis.
Deep (Reticular Dermis): These peels create necrosis of the epidermis
and papillary dermis extending into the mid reticular dermis.
What skin types can the X-Fol peels be
performed on?
All Fitzpatrick’s skin types one through six.
What types of skin conditions does the X-Fol
treat?
The X-Fol Peel is recommended for the following:
Facial Rejuvenation
Photoaging
Hyperpigmentation
Acne- Mild papulopustular and/or comedonal
Scarring- Mild and superficial, particularly acne scars
Shaving irritation- Men with shaving irritation on face or neck
Will the X-Fol peels thin out my skin?
No. The peels will exfoliate the stratum corneum, thinning out the horny
layer of the skin. The salicylic acid is a keratoplastic; it thickens
the epidermis by increasing cell layers.
What results can I expect from the X-Fol
peels and how long after I start my series will I see these results?
Each individual experiences different results, so it will vary from
patient to patient. Most patients notice a difference in the skin
texture and overall appearance immediately after the first peel. A
series of six peels is recommended for maximum results. Maintenance
sessions can then be scheduled based on your personal needs.
Will I have down time in between my peels?
There is no down time with the X-Fol peels. It is recommended that you
use the Multivitamin Enriched Face Cream daily to ensure the skin is
properly nourished and moisturized between peels. This can also prevent
flaking of the skin.
Can I continue to use my Retin-A and other
prescription products while having the X-Fol peel series?
There is no contra-indication on using these types of prescription
products. It is however recommended that all AHA/BHA products and any
other potentially irritating products not be used for 48 hours following
a peel to avoid risk of irritation, even if the exfoliated site looks
and feels normal.
How long after laser hair removal and
microdermabrasion can I have a peel?
One month is recommended.
Will my acne get worse from the X-Fol peels?
It may seem worse as the skin gets unplugged in the beginning stages and
the blackheads and comedones are being purged from the skin. But it is
important to note that X-Fol treatments have been proven to improve acne
overall not contribute to it.
Can expose my skin to the sun while having
the X-Fol Peels?
It is always recommended to use an SPF 15 or higher daily.
Can I continue to use soap and water at home
while receiving the peels?
In many cases the results of the X-Fol peel are greatly improved by
priming the skin with the Medique Skincare homecare system. The AHA/BHA
combination and Retinol products will help to exfoliate upper layers of
the stratum corneum allowing the professional X-Fol system to penetrate
even deeper. Consult with your service provider to learn more about the
recommended Medique products for your skin type.
What persons are not suited to receive the
X-Fol peels?
The peels are not used on patients who are taking Accutane (or have
taken it in the past year). It is also recommended to abstain from peels
for women who are pregnant or nursing, and those with certain systemic
allergies. Your professionally trained technician or doctor can review
any contra-indications and advise you for your specific situation.
